Batteries
Batteries is the lifeblood of any PDA. Many times I sit and wonder how they choose to go with a regular battery of a rechargeable battery. PDA batteries come in various shapes and sizes depending on what your model takes. Many older Palm Pilots take AAA batteries or AA batteries. Now for my money those are best if you ask me. People always ask my why I say that. I have good reasoning for that. You can always find batteries somewhere but if you don't have access to an outlet than the rechargeable kind is useless to you.
Now I haven't come across this and I really don't know if they make a PDA that takes both at the same time. Personally I would think it would work well. If you had a rechargeable battery and when it went dead it automatically went to the other batteries you would have some very happy consumers. I don't know how many times my battery went dead and I lost information on my PDA's. rechargeable batteries though do have advantages to. They last a very long time and as long as you make sure you have enough of a charge you won't see companies going away from these anytime soon. Another drawback to rechargeable batteries is they are a lot more expensive than conventional batteries.
As batteries are better made they will last longer and all will be rechargeable. Another thing I hate is trying to remove the PDA cover on the batteries. Some of these are located in hard places to get to. You don't want to ruin anything but getting one out sometimes is very hard. I vote to have them always on the backside of the PDA. Batteries that are rechargeable are also less likely to leak unlike the other batteries. If they do leak they will ruin your PDA and you won't be very happy. No matter what we think batteries will be an important part of the PDA's for awhile. I don't see solar cells coming to PDA's anytime soon so I guess we will have to live with what we have.
