For too long, people held on to other ideas of what they could and could not do but we all need to face facts; if you don’t have Windows access, whether in home, in school, or in business, you’re really swimming alone. The fact that this unit also plays videos, music, and shoots pictures adds to the fun factor. Dell’s Axim X5 is powered by an Intel Xscale processor at a fairly impressive 400 MHz. Processing speed like that is reason enough to consider the Axim X5 for your PDA. Add in the Intel XScale processor, plus programs like Pocket Word and Excel, and the 64MB SDRAM and 48MB Intel Strata Flash ROM and you’ve got one top octopus. Another point of contention is accessibility; you need to be able to reach and be reached wherever you are. This model PDA has an optional wireless compact flash card along with the reliability of Microsoft Office to receive email. There is also the battery to speak of. Many PDA’s have a shameful battery life; the Axim X5 is equipped with a 1440 mAh removable Lithium-ion primary battery which has a decent half life all its own. Feel free when you’re purchasing to inquire about the high capacity battery for even longer shelf life. If you need cases, they are available and are ready for your purchase. Even if your model PDA is expired, there are cases available both at stores, from online retailers, and directly from Dell, both by phone and online. Aluminum cases or even just leather sleeves make a big difference when you’re thinking of the continued good use of your machine. Dell and the Axim X5 was a great model PDA, if you’re still an owner, the company and online stores offer great supplemental support. One of the great features of learning about all these models that are slightly outdated is to see what’s mattered most to people through the years and see the things that are cast asunder. Reliability, connectivity, memory, and program expansion abilities are all things that matter to PDA users; Dell PDA’s offer these things back, in spades.
