SonySony invaded the United States with the Walkman and they have never stopped. Sony introduces new products all the time and a Sony PDA was a natural progression for them. Sony made an immediate impact on the PDA market with some of there PDA's like the Sony Clie TJ27. Sony made PDA's that were cheaper than most as far as price is and had features many different offer at the time. They surpassed Palm fairly quickly and that didn't sit well with all the other PDA manufactures.Sony took the PDA to new levels and the other companies had to follow suit or left behind. Sadly, though as quickly as Sony rose in the PDA they faded out fairly quickly. Why? It's real simple having to pay the rights to use other companies software and Operating systems just made it impossible for Sony to gain any market share. Sony decided in late 2005 to pull out of the market in the United States. They still offer for support for the PDA's they have already issued here. If Sony had there own operating system than they would have stay because they would have been a big player in the market. it just wasn't very cost effective for them to stay. Palm started to uncut them with price and options so the company decided to pursue other ares to market there PDA/Mini-computer time of handhelds. Smart phones are probably here to stay for a long time and Sony Ericsson will continue to market that product to consumers. It makes more sense to market them than PDA's as they are the future of the PDA market anyways. Sony is credited with getting Palm to develop better PDA's so Sony did accomplish that. It seems whatever Sony gets into they do a great job at it. Take the Sony playstation and how they have capture such a big market share. It's real simple people love there products and are very loyal and always buy Sony. It's sad to see Sony leave the PDA market but there impact will be felt for years. Without there entry there might not be a PDA market anymore. They came in a changed it for the better even if it was for such a very small time. The Sony PDA's that are still out there still sell well and will for a long time. They were way ahead of there time, and maybe that was part of the problem.
